Deadbeat

If you're into rhythm games that really get your heart pumping, you've gotta check out Deadbeat. It's a totally free arcade style music game that's got a lot in common with fan favorites like Friday Night Funkin' Soft Mod and the Sunday mod. You play as this cool skeleton character who’s gotta dodge obstacles and survive each level by keeping up with the beat.

One of the best things about Deadbeat is that you get to pick your own soundtrack. The game comes with a small but pretty diverse collection of songs, so whether you're into electronic, pop, or something a little more intense, there’s probably a track that’ll get you moving. And trust me some of these are no joke. The difficulty varies, so you can start chill and work your way up to full on sweat mode.

Gameplay is straightforward but super engaging. Each song puts you against an enemy at the top of the screen who’s hurling all kinds of objects your way. Your job? Avoid 'em. You’ve got a health bar that drops when you get hit, but it slowly refills if you manage to stay clean for a few seconds. The goal is to finish the song without biting the dust but hey, if you mess up, no big deal. You can retry as many times as you want.

What keeps things interesting is the variety of obstacles. Some are simple bumps you jump over timed exactly to the music so the faster the beat, the quicker your reflexes need to be. Others require you to quickly shift lanes. And then there are those solid colored objects that you just can’t destroy. No smashing through those dodging is your only option.

Visually, Deadbeat keeps it clean and minimal. It’s got a neat pseudo 3D style that makes the obstacles feel like they’re coming right at you. You control your skeleton with key presses: tap to jump, tap to hit, tap to move lanes. There’s no holding down buttons to glide every action is a deliberate tap. It takes a minute to get used to, but once it clicks, it feels super satisfying.

This game is equal parts fun and frustrating in the best way possible. You’ll laugh, you’ll groan, you’ll definitely restart a few times. Even though the tracklist isn’t huge, mastering each song feels like a real accomplishment. And yeah, the characters and world have this charming, almost cute style that’s easy to like even without super detailed graphics.

You can play Deadbeat right in your browser, but fair warning it might lag a bit depending on your setup. For the smoothest experience, I’d recommend downloading it. It’s lightweight, runs great on PC, and honestly? It’s a blast.
