Tux Paint

Tux Paint is a free, award-winning drawing application designed for children aged 3 to 12 (preschool and K-6). Tux Paint is utilized in schools worldwide as a computer literacy drawing activity. It features an intuitive interface combined with engaging sound effects and a friendly cartoon mascot named Tux, who appears at the bottom of the screen to provide tips, hints, and information to guide children as they use the application.

Children start with a blank canvas and a variety of tools to spark their creativity. The drawing tools are readily available on the canvas and easily accessible. The canvas has a fixed size, eliminating concerns about pixels or inches when creating a new picture. The entire program fits on a screen as small as 640x480 and can be displayed full-screen to hide the computer?s underlying desktop interface. (It defaults to 800x600 mode but can run at larger sizes and in portrait or landscape mode as well.)

To load and save images, Tux Paint uses a simple thumbnail display, requiring no knowledge of the file system structure. File names are not needed, making the interface both entertaining and practical for children. The program is configurable, with options to disable sound effects, printing, and quitting. Tux Paint offers extensive multi-language support, with parts of the application translated into 129 languages.
