Microsoft Silverlight (64-bit) Microsoft Silverlight (64-bit)

Remember Silverlight? Microsoft's Flash killer That? Kinda Wasn't

Alright, let's take a trip back to, what 2007? 2008? Microsoft dropped Silverlight (64 bit) like it was gonna save the internet. Supposedly this thing was the future: streaming video that didn't suck, audio that didn't sound like it was coming out of a tin can, and slick animations that made boring old HTML look like a rotary phone. They hyped it as the Flash destroyer, the platform agnostic hero windows, Mac, heck, even Nokia S60 (RIP) could run it. Ambitious, right?

So? What Went Wrong?

Honestly, Silverlight never really caught fire. First off, you had to install a whole separate plugin, and people do not love extra steps (seriously, who's out here still clicking "yes" to random plugins?). Then, HTML5 rolled in looking all shiny and modern, and suddenly Silverlight felt like someone's weird tech experiment. Oh, and don't get me started on the security nightmares nobody wants their computer turned into a malware disco. So yeah, Silverlight had potential, but between the install hassle, security freakouts, and the rise of better, simpler solutions, it just kinda fizzled out. End of an era, or maybe just a footnote in tech history.
