SBK-X
Remember those old school flash games that didn't need a supercomputer to run? SBK X: Arcade Edition was one of those gems lightweight, free, and surprisingly addictive. It was super popular in places like India, Malaysia, and Indonesia, probably because you could run it on just about anything. I first downloaded it back in college, and honestly, it became my go to time killer between classes. Took me over a year to finish the whole thing, but man, was it worth it.
You get to step into the boots or in Billy’s case, boot of two wrestlers: Kimbo or Billy. They’re signed by this New York based company, CZR, but Billy’s got a rough start he’s missing a foot and has to retrain at their facility. Things don’t go smoothly, though. He gets wrecked by Ken Shamrock in his first match. But here’s the cool part: if you play your cards right, Billy can still turn things around in a no contest rematch. The three on three championship mode is where the real chaos happens. You switch between Kimbo and Billy mid fight, and it’s nonstop action. You never know when Kimbo might decide to launch someone across the ring with some ridiculous move.
For a flash game, the graphics are seriously impressive way more realistic than you’d expect, and the animations are smooth. The story hooked me even though I’m not really into wrestling. The fighting mechanics feel a lot like Street Fighter simple to pick up, but with enough depth to keep you engaged. The soundtrack is catchy, and the voice acting, while I couldn’t always tell what they were saying, totally sells the drama. All in all, SBK X is a blast from the past that still holds up. If you’re looking for some straightforward, no fuss fun, this one’s a winner.
