Hamsterball

Ever watched a hamster roll around in one of those clear plastic balls? It's equal parts hilarious and adorable until they bump into a wall or, heaven forbid, tumble off the edge of a table. That exact mix of cuteness and chaos is what Hamsterball, the arcade game by Rb>Raptisoft, tries to capture. And honestly? It mostly succeeds.

You play as a tiny hamster sealed inside a ball, rolling your way through what feels like a giant obstacle course suspended in mid air. There are no guardrails, no safety nets just you, the ball, and a whole lot of empty space below. The goal is simple: make it to the end without falling. But as you’ll quickly learn, simple doesn’t mean easy.

Controlling the ball is trickier than it looks. It has a mind of its own sometimes, rolling with a momentum that feels just a little too real. One slight miscalculation, one overeager nudge, and oops there goes your hamster, plunging into the abyss. And it’s not just gravity you have to worry about. The levels are sprinkled with hazards like rogue billiard balls that send you flying, or mouse traps just waiting to snap shut. It’s a dangerous world out there for a rodent in a plastic sphere.

Visually, Hamsterball won’t blow you away. The graphics are pretty basic, even for its time. You won’t find lush textures or intricate level designs here just floating platforms, occasional obstacles, and a color palette that shifts from stage to stage. The music loops are catchy at first but can start to feel repetitive after a while. It’s clear this game was made on a budget, but that doesn’t stop it from being weirdly charming.

Where Hamsterball really shines is in its gameplay. It’s challenging in that classic, “just one more try” kind of way. There’s something satisfying about finally nailing a tricky section after failing a dozen times. It’s not trying to tell a deep story or make you cry it’s just pure, uncomplicated fun. If you’re in the mood for a no frills arcade experience that doesn’t take itself too seriously, Hamsterball is definitely worth a roll.
