CrossFire
If you're into multiplayer shooters, you've probably heard of Crossfire by SmileGate. It's a free to play FPS where you join either the Black List or Global Risk faction and dive into a bunch of different game modes. With maps ranging from tight close quarters to wide open battlegrounds, there’s always something new to try and players from around the world keep the matches feeling fresh.
One of Crossfire's biggest strengths is its sheer number of modes. Seriously, there are over 20 of them, so whether you're into planting bombs, rescuing hostages, or just straight up team deathmatch, you won’t get bored quickly. The game also offers a solid selection of weapons assault rifles, SMGs, sniper rifles, you name it and you can customize your gear using either GP (earned in game) or ZP (premium currency).
But here’s the catch: Crossfire has some serious downsides. The game leans heavily into pay to win mechanics. As you progress, you’ll notice that players who spend real money have a clear edge, leaving free users stuck grinding for hours just to stay competitive. And if that wasn’t enough, security is a mess. Hackers run rampant on many servers, and the anti cheat system is so flawed it sometimes flags harmless files as malicious. Talk about irony.
On top of that, Crossfire’s graphics feel dated, even by older standards, and it doesn’t always play nicely with modern operating systems. It’s clear the game hasn’t aged gracefully.
If you’re looking for alternatives, Counter Strike: Global Offensive (CSGO) remains a top choice. It outperforms Crossfire in visuals, map design, and overall polish though it’s not without its own security issues. Another great option is Apex Legends, which brings stunning graphics, fast paced gameplay, and a unique squad based system that emphasizes teamwork. Just keep in mind, it’s more demanding on your hardware.
At the end of the day, Crossfire’s main appeal is its variety and low system requirements. But with outdated visuals, rampant cheating, and aggressive monetization, it’s hard to recommend unless you’re really nostalgic for older shooters. If you’re after a smooth, modern FPS experience, you might want to look elsewhere.
