Yz Dock
When Yz Dock first hit the scene, it created a real buzz everyone was talking about it. It was one of those apps that just felt fresh and exciting, especially for Windows users who admired the sleek look of macOS. But then, out of the blue, Apple stepped in with a cease and desist, and the developer had to pull the plug on further updates. It was a huge letdown for the community, but even today, years after its last update, Yz Dock still has a loyal following. People just love how lightweight and customizable it is.
So what exactly is Yz Dock? In simple terms, it’s a program toolbar that mimics the iconic dock from macOS X. It sits neatly on your screen, giving you quick access to your favorite apps, files, and shortcuts with smooth animations and a clean aesthetic. Even though it’s no longer in active development, it’s surprisingly stable and remains a popular choice for those looking to personalize their desktop experience without heavy software.
Using Yz Dock is super intuitive. Want to add an icon? Just drag and drop an .exe file or a shortcut straight from Windows Explorer right into the dock. To remove something, drag the icon out it’s that easy. For custom icons, drop your PNG files into the "icons" folder, then right click any icon in the dock, go to Properties, and pick the image you want. You can tweak the dock’s overall behavior by right clicking on an empty spot and opening Settings options like size, opacity, and animation style are all there. One thing to note: some features, like the clock and trash bin, were never fully implemented, so you might have to work around those. Still, for a free, abandoned project, it holds up remarkably well.
