Totally Accurate Battle Simulator
Ever wanted to see an army of wobbling, ragdoll warriors clobber each other in the most absurdly hilarious way possible? That’s exactly what Totally Accurate Battle Simulator (or TABS, as fans call it) delivers. It’s a ridiculously fun indie tactics game from Landfall that leans hard into physics based chaos. Available on Windows, Mac, and Xbox Game Pass, this game turns military strategy into a laugh out loud spectacle.
When you fire up TABS, you’re thrown into a top down view of a battlefield where the enemy is already lined up and waiting. Your job? Build your own army from scratch. You pick your units, place them carefully, and hope your strategy holds up but there’s a catch. Once you hit the “Go” button, you lose all control. Your troops charge forward on their own, and what follows is a glorious mess of flailing limbs, flying bodies, and pure physics driven madness.
The game offers two main factions Red and Blue and two core modes to play around with. Sandbox mode is where the real experimentation happens. Here, you get access to all units (both Red and Blue), every item you’ve unlocked, and every map available including the Simulation map. It’s the perfect playground for testing wild ideas and creating epic, large scale brawls just for the fun of it.
Then there’s Campaign mode, which is broken down into eight smaller modes: Introduction, Adventure, Challenge, Dynasty, Renaissance, Pirate, Spooky, and Simulation. Introduction serves as the tutorial, but it’s worth playing you keep all the rewards you earn. Adventure and Challenge are level based. Adventure eases you into the game’s mechanics and encourages creative use of the battlefield chaos. Challenge, on the other hand, is where things get serious. You’ll need sharp tactics, smart unit placement, and a tight budget to outsmart overpowered enemy armies.
The remaining modes Dynasty, Renaissance, Pirate, Spooky, and Simulation each focus on specific factions and unit types. For instance, skeleton warriors might seem weak alone, but in a group, they become an unstoppable wall of bones. Learning these quirks is key to mastering the game.
TABS isn’t too demanding to run. The minimum specs include a 64 bit Windows 7 or newer, an Intel Core i5 2400 or AMD FX 6300 CPU, 8GB RAM, 3GB free storage, and a GTX 670 or R9 270 graphics card. But if you want buttery smooth ragdoll action, Landfall recommends Windows 10, an Intel i7 4770 or AMD Ryzen 5 1600, and a GTX 970 or R9 290X. Fair warning though this game loves RAM. The more you have, the smoother the chaos.
What makes Totally Accurate Battle Simulator so special is its unique blend of strategy and slapstick. There’s nothing quite like watching your carefully (or not so carefully) planned army charge into battle, only to collapse into a pile of wobbly limbs. It’s equal parts challenging and comical a game that doesn’t take itself too seriously, and neither should you.
