The Floor Is Wet
Ever get that weird feeling you're not alone while doing a boring chore? The Floor Is Wet takes that exact creepy vibe and turns it into a short, free horror game. Made by indie developer Serious Daniel, it's a simple but seriously spooky simulation where your only job is to mop.
You play as a veteran employee of a cleaning service, sent to a dark, empty building. Your task couldn't be more straightforward: walk around, find every wet patch on the floor, and mop it until it's bone dry. The gameplay loop is simple, but the atmosphere is where the game really works. The hallways are dim, the only sounds are your own footsteps and the slosh of your mop, and the whole time you're just waiting for something to go wrong. It perfectly captures that feeling of being watched when you know you should be alone.
There's a catch, of course. If you take too long, a sinister creature will start to stalk the corridors. The game also has three different endings to discover, which adds a nice bit of "what if?" replayability once you finish your first run. But that's the thing a first run doesn't take long. You can see everything The Floor Is Wet has to offer in well under an hour. While the suspense is effective, the actual mopping can start to feel repetitive, and there's not much more to the experience beyond that initial chill.
In the end, The Floor Is Wet is like a good, short horror story. It sets up a fantastic, unnerving premise and delivers a solid jump or two, but it doesn't overstay its welcome. It's a great free game for a single, tense sitting just don't expect to be mopping up nightmares for days on end.
