Split/Second: Velocity

If you're into high octane, adrenaline pumping racing games, Split/Second: Velocity is a title you won't want to miss. Developed by Polar Motion Games and published by Microsoft, this arcade style racer throws you into a world where speed isn't just the goal it's a weapon. The game made its debut back in March 2021 and quickly hit the Nintendo DS a couple of months later, but it’s the PC version that really lets the chaos shine.

The story kicks off with Dusty, a down on his luck racer who’s trying to piece his life back together after personal tragedy. He signs on with a racing corporation, only to get swept up in a wild conspiracy involving his father’s mysterious death and a shady operation called the "Gravity" project. Before he knows it, he’s kidnapped and thrown into a deadly racing league where every lap could be his last. It’s part revenge story, part sci fi thriller, and all action.

What sets Split/Second apart from other racers is its “power play” mechanic. As you race, performing drifts, near misses, and takedowns fills your power bar. Once it’s charged, you can trigger environmental explosions, collapsing structures, and other track altering events to wreck your opponents. It’s like being in an action movie where you control the stunts.

The PC version offers two control styles: one using a traditional racing wheel or gamepad, and another that relies on a radar based system for a more tactical feel. Both are responsive and fun, though the learning curve is real you’ll need to memorize tracks and master your car’s unique abilities to come out on top. The levels are packed with shortcuts, hidden routes, and dynamic obstacles that keep every race feeling fresh and unpredictable.

Visually, the game holds up surprisingly well. It’s got that gritty, high energy vibe that fans of series like Burnout or Blur will appreciate. The explosions are big, the crashes are satisfying, and the sense of speed is absolutely relentless. It’s not a sim it’s an arcade experience through and through.

All in all, Split/Second: Velocity is a blast. It’s fast, chaotic, and packed with enough content to keep you coming back. If you love racing games with personality and over the top action, firing up the PC version is a no brainer.
