Starting up the game is an adventure in itself! You begin on a menu made of floating pink blocks. Instead of a boring list, you jump on the block you want: one toggles fullscreen, another changes the graphics from "Very Low" to "Ultra," and yes, there's even a block to quit when you're done. It’s a charming and playful way to set up your game.

The gameplay is pure, addictive platforming joy. You control a tiny, determined girl as she leaps across precarious platforms and dodges tricky obstacles to find and unlock new levels. Miss a jump, and you'll hear a hilariously loud yell as she plummets to the level below. You move with the classic WASD or arrow keys, using the up arrow to jump and the left/right arrows to steer in mid air. Hit 'R' to instantly retry a frustrating section, and 'Esc' to pause your adventure.

The worlds you explore are wonderfully creative. You enter them by jumping onto labeled pink blocks that whisk you away to places like "Amy’s Office Pop on Rocks," the whimsical "Pekoland," or the fiery "Red Heart." Your mission in these worlds? Catch floating moustaches for points and navigate all the way to the end, where a special pink block labeled "Mom" awaits to finish the stage.

Smol Ame keeps you on your toes with its variety. One level might have you hopping across rising and spinning platforms, while another has you leaping between stacks of books, dodging airplanes, or weaving through giant plants. The real challenge kicks in when you see a clock. This starts a tough, timed section where arrows rain from the sky and platforms require pixel perfect jumps. Get hit or miss a leap, and you’re sent right back to that clock. It’s the kind of tough but fair challenge that speedrunners will love to master.

With its vibrant, VR inspired aesthetic and non stop action, Smol Ame feels like a love letter to classic platformers and creative games like Roblox, but with its own unique personality. It’s incredibly easy to get completely lost in its colorful worlds and clever challenges, making hours feel like minutes. It’s a delightful, must try gem for anyone who loves a good jumping challenge.
