SimpleShare

SimpleShare is an open source initiative by Microsoft designed to facilitate file sharing among users with internet connectivity. This service operates through a straightforward combination of a web browser and a SQL Server database. While it offers useful functionalities such as password protection for individual files, certain limitations need addressing. This guide will explain how to deactivate the Windows Firewall, which often impedes SimpleShare and similar Windows applications requiring internet access.

Steps to Deactivate Windows Firewall and Facilitate File Sharing

To ensure seamless operation of SimpleShare, follow these steps to disable the Windows Firewall:

Deactivate Windows Firewall

The initial step involves disabling the Windows Firewall. Begin by launching the "Task Manager." Within the interface, locate options like Internet Options, Shared Network, and Basic. By clicking on these, you'll access the Internet settings dialog box. Here, find the block list dropdown, select "Disabled," and confirm by clicking OK. A notification will pop up, indicating that the Windows Firewall has restricted access to your Shared USB storage device.

Relocate Your Files

Once the firewall is deactivated, proceed to transfer your files. Navigate to the destination where the Foreign Disk has been unblocked. Click the copy button, choose a new location for the files, and continue by clicking the copy button again. The files will then be transferred to this new location, which you can open for future reference.

By following these instructions, users can effectively manage the operational challenges associated with SimpleShare, ensuring a more streamlined file sharing experience.
