So, let's talk about Silhouette Studio the photo editing software that’s been getting a lot of attention lately, especially with the release of the Silhouette CAMEO 3. When the CAMEO 3 launched at the end of July, Silhouette America had to roll out some quick updates to the software to keep up with the new machine’s features. At first glance, everything seemed to work just fine. But as soon as we started using the updated version of Silhouette Studio, some familiar issues popped up again. It’s not a deal breaker, but it’s something to be aware of if you’re diving into the world of digital cutting and design.

One of the biggest improvements is that Silhouette Studio now works on both Mac and PC. Before, it was strictly a Windows thing, so this is a welcome change for Apple users. That said, the design tools themselves haven’t changed much. The silhouette tool got a bit of an upgrade it now has two modes: import/die cut and export. For those of us who also use programs like Adobe Illustrator, the die cutting functionality in the older version felt a little clunky. Converting photos of people into clean silhouettes just didn’t feel smooth. The tool is still handy for creating borders, but it doesn’t pack the same punch it used to.

There’s also a cool new feature called the Silhouette Machine. This lets you create really polished, geometric silhouettes by arranging die cuts on a grid and snapping your photo into place. You can position objects exactly where you want them, making it easier to achieve that crisp, professional look. It’s a neat addition for anyone who loves precision in their designs.

All in all, Silhouette Studio is moving in the right direction, especially with better cross platform support and new tools like the Silhouette Machine. But if you’re expecting a flawless experience right out of the gate, you might run into a few hiccups. Still, for crafters and designers, it’s a solid option that keeps getting better.
