Scrabble Scrabble

Scrabble

If you're a fan of word games, you might have heard of Scrabble the classic board game that’s been a household favorite for generations. This digital version by Skunkstudio brings the familiar tile based challenge to your Windows computer, but with some major limitations. It’s a trial edition, meaning you can only play for a limited time before it locks up, pushing you to make a purchase. And while it does a decent job keeping score and relies on a solid dictionary to prevent spelling errors, the experience falls flat in a lot of ways.

The gameplay stays true to the original: you form words on the board to rack up points, and the computer handles all the scoring. But here’s the catch there’s only one opponent: the AI. And it doesn’t take long for that to feel repetitive. Once you figure out how the computer plays, matches start to lose their excitement. There are no difficulty settings to spice things up, and no option to play against friends, either online or in person. You’re stuck in a solo experience that grows stale fast.

Thankfully, there are much better alternatives out there. Words with Friends 2, for example, keeps the spirit of word building alive but adds social features, letting you play and chat with people worldwide. It’s free, more accessible, and constantly updated. Another great pick is Fundox, which is also free and designed for Windows 10. It supports multiplayer for up to four people and even offers gameplay analytics tracking your word choices and strategies so you can improve over time.

When you stack up the options, this version of Scrabble just doesn’t measure up. It works on Windows, sure, but that’s about all it has going for it. With time limited play, no multiplayer, and a basic AI, it’s hard to recommend especially when there are free, full featured games like Words with Friends 2 and Fundox available. Save yourself the hassle and skip this one.
