Cooked up by the folks over at Big Huge Games Inc., it pretty much tosses you into this massive online world where you gotta think fast or get steamrolled. pc gamers, especially those loyal to windows, kinda get the royal treatment here. Microsoft even handed out the licensing, so you know it's not some janky knockoff. The game dropped on May 12, 2021, and if you were lurking around on the windows Game Service back then, you probably saw the hype train roll in.

Development and Inspiration

This bad boy was the brainchild of Brian Reynolds. Yeah, the same Brian Reynolds who's basically a legend in the game dev scene dude's got more years in the business than some gamers have been alive. The idea sparked when he was messing around with something called Territory War. He thought the interface was... let's just say, not great. While Territory War kinda rushed you through smashing up fake civilizations, Brian wanted something slicker, way more polished. He figured windows deserved a strategy game that didn't look like it was coded in someone's basement. And, well, that's how Rise of Nations started brewing.
