Papetura
Imagine a world entirely made of paper every character, every bug, every puzzle, every flickering shadow. That’s Papetura, a lovingly handcrafted adventure game that feels like stepping into a delicate, magical diorama. Created by the solo developer Tomasz Ostafin, who goes by the name Petums, this game is a true labor of love, pieced together over years of cutting, folding, and gluing real paper models. It’s not just inspired by paper it is paper, brought to life through painstaking stop motion animation.
You play as Pape, a small paper creature, who teams up with a fiery little friend named Tura. Together, they embark on a quiet but urgent mission: to save their fragile world from being consumed by flames. There’s no dialogue here the story unfolds through visual charm, subtle animations, and an absolutely mesmerizing soundtrack by Floex (aka Tomáš Dvořák), whose music gives the paper world a soulful, almost dreamlike atmosphere.
The puzzles are cleverly woven into the environment. You’ll push paper tabs, rearrange scenes, and interact with tiny insects and strange creatures all made from paper. It’s a bit like playing inside a pop up book that has the spirit of classic point and click adventures like Machinarium or The Neverhood, but with a unique, handmade aesthetic that sets it completely apart.
Released in 2019 after nearly a decade in the making, Papetura is more than a game it’s a piece of interactive art. It’s short, sweet, and perfect for anyone who appreciates creativity, atmosphere, and stories told without words.
