One Night at Flumptys
Ever heard of that wild comedy One Night at Flumptys? It’s one of those films that sticks with you quirky, dark, and surprisingly deep. Directed by none other than David Fincher, it’s packed with weird characters, but one of the most memorable has to be The Red Man. You first see him as this homeless dude crashed on the sidewalk right outside the theater. Not exactly friendly, though he’s got a thing for chucking stuff at people. And guess who gets a not so warm welcome from him on night one? Jonochrome.
The story kicks off with Jonochrome hiding in an alley after getting mugged. Poor guy’s terrified. But he doesn’t stay a victim for long he turns into a straight up marksman, taking out a few muggers in revenge. Just when you think he might go full vigilante, bam he gets shot in the leg by that same homeless guy, The Red Man, who finds him hiding in some bushes. To survive, Jonochrome has to make a deal: perform one night a week at the theater alongside five other “freaks.” And let me tell you, it’s not a glamorous gig.
For five nights straight, the group goes through absolute chaos murders, robberies, full on hallucinations. The whole thing revolves around Jonochrome and his crew: Flo, Charmaine, Amy, Dottie, and Tommy. Each night, someone new turns up dead, and Jonochrome has to rely on his illusion skills and quick thinking to outsmart The Red Man and make it out alive.
The world of One Night at Flumptys is something else. It’s set in this vibrant, almost cartoonish city filled with creatures called Flumptons. At first glance, they seem straight up evil, but they’re actually essential to keeping the city running. They help unclog sewers, clean pipes, and clear trash off the streets. Funny how things aren’t always what they seem, right?
The play was so popular it got turned into a full length movie, starring the legendary Michael Caine. If you’re into dark comedies with twists and unforgettable characters, this one’s a hidden gem worth checking out.
