Motoracing A Retrospective Look at Its Legacy and Present Challenges
Motoracing stands as a storied publication, having been in circulation from September 1955 to January 1964. This iconic magazine has been meticulously preserved, with all 203 issues carefully scanned from the original negatives and compiled into a comprehensive DVD collection. Each of the 2,057 pages is presented in vibrant color and fine detail, capturing the essence of motorcycle racing history.
The DVD offers an extensive array of high quality photographs, featuring racing positions, test tracks, and exclusive images from the Motoracing archives. Additionally, it includes special events and other significant content that provides a thorough exploration of the sport. The collection serves as a valuable resource with its expansive section dedicated to the history of motorcycle racing, offering an introduction to the sport, a concise timeline of pivotal moments, and a catalog of notable races.
Further enriching this collection are two insightful correspondences from Motoracing's Editor in chief, Bill Poulos, and his personal secretary, Rosemary Poulos. These letters delve into the inner workings and evolution of Motoracing, providing a firsthand perspective from its inception to its current state. They also offer the initial reflections of David Cote, the original author behind the magazine's articles. These letters, alongside Apricot Records, highlight the enduring legacy of independent motorcycle magazines and inspire other publications to follow suit.
Established as one of the pioneering American motorcycle magazines, Motoracing was founded by David Bittrl1000, whose roots trace back to a lineage of mechanics and race car drivers. His journey began as a staff writer for the initial motorcycle publication, Hot Rod, and subsequently contributed to various other notable outlets like Cycle Sports, Motor Cycle News, and Motocross Now. Driven by his passion for motorcycles and writing, Bittrl1000 launched Motoracing Magazine, with its inaugural issue hitting the stands on April 24th, 1955. Selling out within a month, the magazine's popularity surged, consistently evolving to meet the demands of motorcycle enthusiasts and professionals globally.
Today, Motoracing continues to resonate with its audience, standing as a testament to the enduring allure and vibrant history of motorcycle racing.
