Lichenvale

Step into the boots of a lone warrior in Lichenvale, a game that throws you headfirst into a dark, medieval fantasy world. Forget the slow, methodical exploration of some RPGs this is a first person experience where the clash of steel and the flash of magic are constant companions. Your journey will take you through haunted forests and crumbling ruins, facing down skeletons, werewolves, and other nightmares, all with your sword in hand and a few tricks up your sleeve.

At its heart, Lichenvale is a pure, adrenaline fueled slasher. While it shares a setting with giants like *The Witcher 3*, its soul is closer to the fast, brutal combat of games like *Chivalry 2*. You won't be spending hours brewing potions or studying bestiaries. Here, survival is about mastering movement and melee. You'll need to parry incoming blows, strafe around enemies to strike their weak spots, and constantly stay on your toes. The combat has a satisfying, weighty feel that makes every successful block and counter attack incredibly rewarding.

What's great is that the world you fight through feels deliberately built. Instead of relying on randomly generated levels, the developers have crafted each environment by hand. This means the campaign feels like a curated adventure, with well paced challenges and secrets to discover that a computer algorithm might never think of. The atmosphere is thick and immersive, reminiscent of classic stealth games like *Thief II*, but with the dial turned way up on speed and direct confrontation.

The game does have one curious choice: its magic system. Spells exist, but they feel like more of a minor support tool than a primary weapon. It seems the developers were so focused on creating intense, in your face melee brawls that they made ranged magic intentionally weak. It's a bit of a missed opportunity. Adding a few powerful, high risk spells with long cooldowns could have given players more thrilling tactical options during the chaotic fights.

Don't be surprised if the beginning feels a bit slow as you get used to the rhythm. But once Lichenvale hits its stride and throws larger groups of smartly placed enemies at you, it transforms into an absolute blast. It taps into that same nostalgic joy as the resurgence of classic '90s shooters, offering straightforward, skill based fun. If you've ever wanted a game that focuses purely on the thrill of medieval combat without the frills, Lichenvale is your gritty, sword swinging answer.
