Good news for dungeon managers! The dark and delightful management roguelike, Legend of Keepers, has just received a substantial new slice of content. Titled "Soul Smugglers," this DLC is a free expansion from the developers at Goblinz Studio, adding a fresh layer of strategy to your evil enterprise.

The core of this update revolves around a new, ghostly resource: souls. The gameplay loop gets a spooky twist as you now send your monsters out not just to defeat invading heroes, but to literally steal the Soul Fragments from their fallen bodies. These fragments become a powerful new currency, used to upgrade your existing monsters and even promote them to more powerful versions. It's a satisfying new system that gives you more direct control over strengthening your dungeon's defenders between waves.

Leading this new soul harvesting operation is a brand new master: the Skeleton Lord. This bony commander brings his own unique playstyle to the table. Alongside him, you get access to a new environment the Graveyard which fittingly allows you to resurrect fallen monsters. The pack is rounded out with five new missions to conquer, three new traps to ensnare heroes, five new artifacts to discover, and a handful of new monsters to recruit.

While the new content is welcome, some players have noted that "Soul Smugglers" feels a bit leaner and less polished than previous DLCs. A few have reported occasional random crashes, and the new mechanics aren't introduced as smoothly as they could be. The balance can feel a little off at times, making some of the new missions surprisingly tough or oddly easy. It's a free expansion, so it's hard to complain too much, but it does have a slight "rushed" feel compared to the rock solid base game.
