Hide

If you're a fan of classic horror games like Slender: The Eight Pages, then you absolutely need to check out Hide. It's a free, indie horror experience that takes that familiar formula of being hunted in the dark and gives it a wonderfully creepy, retro makeover.

The story behind Hide is pretty cool. It was actually made for a game jam at the Super Friendship Club with the theme of "Justice." You start the game alone in a pitch black forest, with nothing but the sound of distant sirens and falling snow. Your goal is simple: find five specific spots. But every time you succeed, you alert something... and it starts hunting you. The "justice" part? Well, maybe you're not the innocent one here.

Gameplay is straightforward but super tense. You use your mouse and keyboard to navigate the eerie woods. The key mechanic is hiding pressing the spacebar makes you crouch and try to become invisible. But you have to be smart about it! If you try to hide right in the monster's line of sight, you're done for. The sound design is a huge part of the fear factor. The ambient noises are unsettling, and hearing your own character's panicked breathing really gets your heart racing.

The visuals are a love letter to old school 8 bit games. The blocky, pixelated graphics might seem simple, but they create an incredibly thick and oppressive atmosphere. You can't see very far, and every shadow feels dangerous. The best visual effect is the light from your pursuer. Seeing that glow cutting through the fog and trees, knowing it's coming for you, is genuinely nerve wracking.

So, do you think you have the nerves to explore the forest and find all five locations in Hide? It's a short but incredibly effective shot of horror that proves you don't need fancy graphics to be truly terrifying. Give it a try if you dare.
