Heroes of Paradis: Prologue

Ever wondered what would happen if the cosmic odd couple from Good Omens got thrown into a classic Dungeons & Dragons adventure? Well, wonder no more. Heroes of Paradis: Prologue is a delightful, totally free fan game that mashes up these two beloved worlds into one charming 8 bit package.

Made by Mudskip Productions using RPG Maker, this game feels like a lost treasure from the golden age of RPGs. It’s got that pixel perfect charm that will remind you of classics like Chrono Trigger, but with a script packed with the witty, heavenly and hellish humor of Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman’s novel. The twist? The story is actually based on an unfilmed 1992 screenplay for Good Omens, making it a unique piece of fandom history you can actually play.

You take control of two unlikely heroes. There’s William Ange, a decidedly human and principled fellow who channels the angelic vibes of Aziraphale. His reluctant partner is Jacinth, a sharp tongued Tiefling who is every bit the chaotic demon that Crowley is. Their meet cute happens in a mysterious forest, kicking off a journey that’s less about saving the world in a straightforward way and more about navigating the hilarious, complicated grey area between absolute good and cartoonish evil.

Visually, it’s a love letter to old school JRPGs with a splash of that Final Fantasy magic. The character designs are full of personality Jacinth, with her fiery hair and attitude, could easily pass for an 8 bit Deadpool on a fantasy vacation. The developers did a fantastic job making each character visually distinct, even within the engine's limits. Just be prepared for the occasional old school quirk; some players have reported bugs that can freeze the game, so saving often is a wise habit to get into.

At its heart, Heroes of Paradis: Prologue is a story driven RPG first. It captures the spirit of tabletop roleplaying through narrative and character rather than complex dice rolling mechanics. It’s a short, sweet, and thoroughly engaging prologue that proves a fan’s passion can create something truly special. If you love witty writing, nostalgic pixels, and the idea of a demon and an angel ish guy bickering their way through a D&D campaign, this little gem is absolutely worth your time.
