If you're a fan of dark humor and classic point and click adventures, then the complete Hector: Badge of Carnage series is a must play. This trilogy for PC bundles all three episodic games into one continuous, hilariously crude story.

You step into the worn out shoes of Detective Inspector Hector, a man whose policing methods are as unorthodox as they are effective. The story kicks off with Hector being called to the grim town of Clapper's Wreake, where a terrorist is holding hostages in the local pub. To secure their release, this disheveled detective must navigate the town's seedy underbelly and complete a series of the terrorist's increasingly absurd demands.

This is where the game's brilliant, adult oriented comedy shines. Your "urgent" police work involves tasks like fixing the town clock, dealing with a corrupt mayor, and, yes, shutting down a notorious adult video store. The writing is sharp, witty, and deliberately offensive in the best way possible, making it absolutely not for the easily offended or young players.

Gameplay is pure old school adventure. You point, you click, and you talk a lot. While there are items to find and use, Hector: Badge of Carnage places a heavier emphasis on dialogue puzzles than complex inventory challenges. Progress often hinges on choosing the right (or sometimes the most insulting) thing to say to the game's cast of eccentric characters. Hector can literally talk his way through almost any situation, from convincing a drunk to give up his clothes to negotiating with a paranoid bomb maker. The solutions aren't always obvious, but with a limited inventory, you're encouraged to think with your words rather than your collected junk, making for a uniquely conversational and often laugh out loud experience.
