If you thought you'd seen everything the Dynasty Warriors series had to offer, think again. Dynasty Warriors: Chronicles (also referred to as Dynasty Warriors: Koei Edition) takes the original Dynasty Warriors: Dynasty Knight from the Game Boy Advance and supercharges it with a bunch of cool new stuff. We're talking full Japanese voice acting, extra character dialogues, and even a few surprise fighters you won’t find in the earlier release. It’s the same chaotic, musou flavored action you love just turned up a notch.

Originally launched in Japan for PlayStation 2 in early 2021 before hitting PC later that year, Chronicles is a hack and slash adventure that puts you right in the thick of ancient Chinese warfare. Developed and published by Koei Tecmo, it’s part of the larger Warriors franchise, but stands out thanks to its faster pace and more action oriented gameplay. If you bounced off earlier titles for being too RPG heavy, this one might just win you back.

One of the biggest additions is the Empires Expansion Pack, which introduces a roster of powerhouse characters like Shikotsumura, Ozasa, Hikaru, Tsubaki, and others. These aren’t your average foot soldiers they’re elite warriors designed to help you power level your main character with unique special moves and personality packed voice lines. The only catch? Some are locked behind specific story conditions, which feels a little restrictive. It would’ve been awesome to mix and match these bruisers freely across the whole game.

All in all, Dynasty Warriors: Chronicles is a welcome refresh of a classic formula. Whether you’re a longtime fan or a newcomer looking for some mindless fun, this title delivers satisfying combat, memorable characters, and just enough new content to feel fresh.
