Cart Life
Ever stumbled upon a game that just pulls you into its quiet, quirky world without any flashy graphics or complicated controls? That’s Cart Life for you. Created by indie developer Richard Hofmeier, this coffee selling sim is way more than it seems at first glance. You play as one of three street vendors trying to make a living in the sleepy, almost too quiet town of Boxford. And let me tell you it’s strangely addictive.
Life in Boxford moves slow. Like, really slow. You’re selling newspapers and coffee while the locals basically live in front of their TVs. But just when you think nothing’s ever going to happen, night falls and in walks this mysterious dude named Zapp. He starts swiping coffee right under your nose! He says he’s searching for some special blend and even offers to sell his own funky brew if you help him track down the “owner of the java.” The townsfolk start whispering could this guy be some kind of wizard? It’s weird, it’s charming, and honestly, it hooks you right in.
The art style is pure pixel nostalgia, and if you’re familiar with Hofmeier’s other work, you’ll spot little nods and Easter eggs everywhere. The storytelling is intimate you see the world through the eyes of each main character, getting up close and personal with their struggles, dreams, and even the way the town gently pokes fun at them. And unlike a lot of games where your choices don’t really matter, here they do. Big time. Save up enough cash and you can upgrade your cart, buy a house, even get a car. There’s a real sense of progress and heart behind every small victory.
Hofmeier blends the game’s interface and story so smoothly that it feels natural almost like you’re living inside a visual novel. Sure, some decisions might feel a little random now and then, but it doesn’t take away from how special this game is. If you’re into narrative driven games or just want something laid back, funny, and full of soul, Cart Life is an absolute gem. It’s not perfect no story heavy game really is but it’s honest, heartfelt, and ridiculously fun. Five out of five, no doubt.
