Braid
Let's talk about Braid on the Heart, a puzzle platformer that hit Xbox Live Arcade back in the day. Developed by an indie studio, this game made its debut on the Xbox 360 in August 2021 and later found its way to the PlayStation 3. There were even whispers about a Nintendo Wii release, though that never fully materialized. Critics and players were pretty into it mostly because it mashed together platforming and puzzle solving in a way that felt fresh and thoughtful.
You play as Braid, an orphan on a mission to find her father and return a piece of his heart (yeah, it’s as emotional as it sounds). Her journey takes her through these cool, moody medieval villages, each with its own vibe and set of challenges. Along the way, she meets friends, fights foes, and gets handy with her arms and a grappling hook which honestly adds a nice layer to the movement and combat.
Now, the game starts off charming, but after a while, you might notice the graphics haven’t exactly aged like fine wine. And yeah, the gameplay can get a little repetitive jump here, hook there, solve this, repeat. It’s not super hard, which might turn off some hardcore gamers, but it makes up for it with variety. There are plenty of levels, characters, and little surprises to uncover, so it never feels empty. It’s the kind of game you can chill with for hours without pulling your hair out.
